What this Module is about

The starting point for this programme is Local Response. Local Response is the starting point because it is at the heart of everything that follows.

Local Response is the idea that people have the capacity to respond to the challenges that they face. They have the capacity to take charge, to learn from each other and to change.

This programme will focus on how the Constellation for AIDS Competence seeks to stimulate, to support and to connect Local Responses around the world. The Constellation uses Local Response to address the challenge of HIV/AIDS. But, we want to make clear right at the start that the power of Local Response is being used to deal with a wide variety of challenges around the world and it was being used long before the Constellation came into existence.

How this module fits into the rest of the programme

Course Diagram

In the modules that follow, we will be dealing with the practicalities of our approach to Local Response in detail. But in this first module, we want to give you the chance to explore for yourselves some examples of Local Response from around the world. The one we will cover in detail comes from Phayao in northern Thailand. It shows the power of Local Response in dealing with the HIV/AIDS and was in fact one of the inspirations for our organisation.

We then want to finish this short module by introducing you to the Constellation for AIDS Competence and to show you how Local Response was the motivation for the creation of our organisation.
